Pioneer DJ has announced the acquisition of Serato
Pioneer DJ's parent company, AlphaTheta, has announced the acquisition of Serato, Rekordbox's competitor in the mixing software market.
The two companies have publicly confirmed the acquisition of all Serato shares by AlphaTheta on Tuesday, July 11.
However, they still have to wait for the green light from the New Zealand Overseas Investment Office which administers overseas investments.
Pioneer CDJ-3000
Pioneer replaces the CDJ-2000NX2 with the CDJ-3000 which brings powerful improvements.
The CDJ-3000 incorporates a new MPU (microprocessor).
The Pro DJ Link connection allows audio files to be shared and played from USB devices and SD cards on up to six CDJ-3000 devices when combined with a 6-channel mixer such as the DJM-V10.
The maximum screen brightness has been improved by over 150% compared to the CDJ-2000NXS2.
Internal audio processing is changed to 96 kHz / 32 bit in all playable audio formats.
The DAC (digital to analog converter) has been improved.
The touch screen changes to 9 inches in high resolution. With Touch Preview, Touch Cue and Stacked Waveform functions Compatible with 3Band Waveform
The jog is quieter and smoother.
The CDJ-3000 interface has been redesigned to improve performance:
- Eight Hot Cue buttons
- Dedicated Beat Jump buttons
- An advanced Auto Beat section
The CDJ-3000 incorporates the Lighting function of Pro DJ Link to synchronize sound and light.
Native Traktor 3 Pro & Kontrol S4 MKIII
I just switched to Traktor 3 Pro. At the same time, I acquired two new Kontrol S4 MKIII controllers from Native Instruments for my public events and studio mixes. I am very satisfied, they bring me new creative possibilities. Here are some examples.
The Kontrol S4 MKIII can mix four decks with the new jog wheels haptic drive, a new FX mixer and many other features. The new tactile and motorized jogs wheels with haptic drive send a return that one feels in the fingers, It is possible to modify, according to your style, the couple and the times of launch / stop. Three modes are possible : Turntable, Jog and Beatgrid Adjust.
In Turntable mode, rotating jog wheels make nudges and scratches like vinyl. You can also use the classic jog mode for a spin-to-nudge response (speed up or slow down). As you physically feel the information when you pass on the loops and points cue, you can sync the tracks quickly and focus on the mix. The beatgrid adjust mode allows you to adjust the beatgrid of a song on the fly.
The light rings of the jog wheels allow to instantly visualize the tempo and the nudge (scrolling) on ??each deck. When you use all four decks, color codes, jog wheels and end-of-song alerts help to keep you from being surprised.
One of the great features of the S4 MKIII is the new FX mixer, which allows a simple pressure to control the filters, delays, gates, reverbs ... It is a great help to make transitions or accentuate and create new effects. It can be used separately or in combination with Traktor 3 basic deck FX.
Each deck has a screen that shows the song informations, tone, tempo, loopback, hotcue as well as the waveform. These screens allow you to manage stems and samples, directly from dedicated controls.
The new inverted fader design protects the S4 MKIII from liquids and dust, so nothing falls on the conductive carbon surface.
The Kontrol S4 MKIII features a professional 24-bit / 96 kHz audio interface. External inputs on each channel provide the ability to connect turntables, CD players, drum machines, mics and synths to create custom configurations.
The software Traktor Pro 3, adds dynamics to the signal, signal that the MKIII S4 boosts in turn, it makes a significant gain in sound quality and power. The S4 can also be used without a computer (stand alone) to mix external sound sources. There are many editing and mixing possibilities with loops, hotcues, stream mode, samples, tempo sync and a large library of sound effects.

Panasonic (after it stopped producing the Technics SL-1200 turntable in 2010) presents a new model : the SL-1200G.
The SL-1200G design contains notable improvements:

History of Écoute le Son du Soleil by Yannick Chevalier.
The song :
Written in 1984 during MIDEM, in Cannes, "Écoute le Son du Soleil", alternating DJ vocals and singing, interspersed with Jingles, reflect Yannick Chevalier's radio shows, club performances and live sets.
The Jingles :
Four Jingles were incorporated in "Écoute le Son du Soleil". They were created with one of the very first harmonizers (Publison DHM 89). This sound effect, that Yannick Chevalier named "Gamin" (kid), was a virtual voice that he used in his live sets and radio broadcasts to "reply to himself" (a bit like a ventriloquist with his puppet).
Anecdotally : In order to refine his performance, Yannick took singing lessons with the famous Madame Charlot, the French Show Business voice coach.
The instrumental version of "Écoute le Son du Soleil " is very popular with DJs.
Today : Creator of the first DJ school in France, Yannick Chevalier is the author of the book "Profession Disc Jockey" (a referencial work in DJ training).
Yannick Chevalier is also a TV and radio advertising producer, a sound designer and a sound engineer.
He runs Point 12 studios, which specialize in postproduction for film, television and radio.
To date, Yannick Chevalier has produced 48 Jingles albums, 30 Sound Effects and Sound Design albums, available on the www.jingles.fr website.

A note from Yannick Chevalier
Sound is my passion. I like to imagine it, listen to it, analyze it, capture it, reproduce it, manipulate it, tame it, alter it, reinvent it and, above all, I like to share it. I live for and by sound in all its forms, from DJing to music production, from radio to television, from the Internet to movies. A great sound is an emotion like no other. At YC International I work as a DJ, a jingle designer, a music producer and a teacher. I also run Point 12 studios where I am a sound engineer, a sound designer and a producer.
